Northumberland House is located a  three minute drive, or fifteen minute walk to Chelton Beach Provincial Park. This is a popular day park with services such as a canteen, showers and is noted for its sea grass set amid mounds of white sand. In the opposite direction, a twenty-minute walk at low tide takes you to the historic and still functioning Seacow Head Lighthouse. Borden, the PEI terminus of the Confederation Bridge and a fifteen minutes car ride away sports a collection of retail outlets known as Gateway Village. Fresh seafood, including lobster and other shellfish, can be purchased daily at the local wharf. Boat tours of the Confederation Bridge leave from the wharf as well and can be arranged through advance bookings.

In the village of Bedeque one can find a doctor`s office and a village store (promoting the world`s most delicious ice cream!). In addition, historic Maplethorpe features fine dining open to the public six days a week. For walking and cycling enthusiasts, The Confederation Trail can be accessed a short drive away. This is a nature trail that was developed on abandoned railway lines and takes you into wetlands and hardwood groves, through quaint villages and along sparkling rivers.

The Bargain Fabric Outlet Store in North Bedeque is the largest independent fabric store in Atlantic Canada with over 10,000 square feet of retail space, drapery/antique gallery and teaching classrooms.

The town of Summerside boasts many attractions and places of interest. One of the most popular is The College of Piping which stages weekly concerts of Celtic music and hosts summer festivals and courses on all things related to  bagpipes. All of your shopping needs from food, clothing, beachwear, health needs, restaurants and car maintenance can be found in this county capital.

In the opposite direction, the village of Victoria-by-the-Sea is a jewel set on the shores of the warm Northumberland Strait. An historic seaport village and artistic enclave, Victoria is ideally situated for relaxing day visits. You can stroll along tree-bowered streets reminiscent of a bygone era and enjoy shops, studios, restaurants, elegant inns and repertory theatre. Victoria even has it`s own chocolate factory!
